Environmental Nanotechnology (future) (ENGR 103) future

This course is one of several new undergraduate courses being developed for a school-wide nanotechnology minor. The course introduces students to the fundamental principles of aquatic nano-scale science and technology including implications and applications of nanotechnology to aquatic environmental systems. Topics include: the properties, characterization, and behavior of nanoparticles in aquatic environmental systems including liquid-phase synthesis of nanoparticles (sol-gel, hydrothermal, etc.); molecular and nano-scale characterization methods (AFM/SEM/TEM, EDX/XRD/FTIR); colloidal stability, aggregation, and deposition phenomena; as well as environmental implications (transport, reactivity, toxicity, and removal) and applications (catalysis, sensing, treatment, and remediation) for nanotechnology.
